Sarawak vs Melaka United

Matchday 5 tonight for home team Sarawak will be against newly promoted side Melaka United. Melaka currently sits at number 11 in the MSL but with a one match lesser due to postpone of their match against Kelantan on M1. Melaka have yet to gather a win this season with a draw and 2 losses. They have managed to score only 4 goals so far, with 6 against.

Head to Head Record

H2H between both teams goes back to their MPL meeting back in 2009/10. Sarawak had a 100% record against Melaka that 2010 season, wining away 6-1 and 5-3 at home. In 2009, both teams drew 2-2 in Kuching and 1-1 in Melaka.

Melaka only win was in the recent FA Cup match against another promoted side PKNS FC, courtesy of a solitary goal by veteran Amry Yahyah. Besides ex-JDT Amry, they also have international defender Khair Jones in their team. Their 4 foreigners are defender Godwin Antwi, korean Jeon Woo Young, captain Ilija Spasojevic and Argentina’s Sergio Aguero ( who is currently injured).

Other notable players are former international defender Mohd Faizal Mohd, midfielder AhmadEzrie, forwards Izzaq Faris Ramlan and R. Surendren. They also have Tokyo born Tam Sheang Tsung, who played in Japan and China.

The team is coached by Englishman, Eric Williams. In a recent interview, Williams was quoted saying on the match against Sarawak, “injuries and tight schedule is putting pressure to our team . We hope our players will recover from tireness and injuries so that our tactics would not be jeopardised for the match.

As for Sarawak, injuries to several players such as Shaimee, Abdul Rahim, Hafiz Abu Bakar has weaken the forward line especially on the right side. Lee Jong Ho, who was also substituted in the match against MIFA with a cut on his forehead is another injury worry. We were informed that coach David will make some positional changes to plug their absent.
